The sock bun, aka CHEATING!

There’s a whole new use for those leftover socks now

Apparently there is a secret to those meaty buns everyone is sporting these days. I assumed there was just an explosion  of thick haired ladies, but no, everyone is cheating with a sock. It’s actually a really simple trick that I will probably use a lot from now on, I just had no idea that all those buns I was envying were an illusion all along. Oh well, if you can’t beat them, join them!  There are about a million tutorials online already, but here is a quick picture view of how to make yourself one fine looking bun.

First you take a sock, preferably one that has lost its mate.  The color doesn’t really matter since you will be covering it with hair.

Now roll up the sock into a doughnut form…mmmmm doughnuts………..

photo (6)You can also buy these “hair socks”.  I tried one from Claire’s to see if it worked better.  I actually liked the sock better and it was free.

Put your hair into a high ponytail and pull your ponytail through the doughnut hole of the sock.

Wrap the ends of your hair around the sock to cover it as much as possible.

Tuck the ends of your hair under the sock and start rolling the sock down your ponytail.  This might take a couple tries to get a clean wrap around the sock.

Roll to the end and bobby pin your amazing new bun.

It leaves you with a really massive, clean bun.  I’m sure this trick has been around for ages, but it was a pretty exciting discovery for me!
