100 days of handstands, 2O days in…

So this month I have been working on 2 projects. Restarting language practice (Russian & Japanese) and also my first 100 day challenge – 100 days of handstands.

This is my first time doing a 100 day project. From what I can gather it’s mainly for the fine arts, but it’s also a completely open concept, so anything is game. I just hope my shoulders are as enthusiastic about this project as I am.

The way I am completing this project is by aiming for a minimum of 20 minutes of handstands 6 days a week and on the 7th day I do something creative with handstands, generally in the thinking realm. I’m not a masochist, I need a day off! 100 days will take me to May 10th, it’s really testament to these crazy COVID times that I don’t have the slightest clue what will be happening in May.

20 days in and I am feeling really good! No surprise there, handstands are basically the physical embodiment of a tamogatchi… they need daily attention or they just die off. It’s incredibly annoying but the long term pay-off is rewarding, maybe I am a masochist…

Starting the project, I wasn’t exactly sure what I would do with my creative days. I love creating, but training is my comfort and procrastination zone all rolled up into one. I always forget what sitting in the uncomfortable space of starting something can lead to. Every time it’s a fight with myself to just start.

Here’s what I worked on on those first two “creative” handstand days. The handstands start a little into the video.

Overall I’m happy with it, even if I can still see a million little mistakes. I used to think that voice would eventually go away once I finally “made it”. Maybe it goes away for some people, but mine has moved in and signed a lease. I ‘m trying to learn to live with her, but she’s not the best roommate. I’ll have to add that to the list of projects to tackle. I’m sure it will only take a month to fix it 🙂
